With the recent UFI conferences taking place in Kuala Lumpur, it’s a timely moment to check in on Malaysia’s ever growing MICE capital, as featured in the latest edition of Exhibition World.

Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre

Hosted by the Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau, UFI Educational Forum on HR Management and the 13th UFI Asia-Pacific Conference (formerly the UFI Open Seminar in Asia) took place in the country’s capital, Kuala Lumpur (KL), at the Shangri-La hotel on 27-28 February and 1-2 March 2018,respectively.

KL’s key meeting and convention venues include the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC or Centre). The KLCC is Malaysia’s foremost purpose-built facility and Asia’s only AIPC (International Association of Congress Centres) Gold Standard venue.

Centrally located, KLCC offers 12,300sqm of exhibition space and an additional 10,000sqm; expansion completes this year. The recently opened 45,000sqm Malaysia International Trade & Exhibition Centre (MITEC) is an architectural icon and a welcome addition to the existing Matrade Exhibition & Convention Centre (MECC) complex.

Opening in 2020, the 52,000sqm KL Putra World Trade Centre will complement the 15,000sqm multi-purpose Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC), a city landmark located some 45 minutes from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). Outside KL, near the KL Golf and Country Club, is the Sime Darby Convention Centre (SDCC), which comprises a grand ballroom (1,765sqm) and 21 meeting rooms.

The 13,935.4sqm Genting International Convention Centre (GICC) is known for its high-tech features, and the 139,000sqm Malaysia Exposition & Convention Center, opening in 2021, will be the largest exhibition centre in South-East Asia.
